Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy describes how FreeTextToCAD ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use our website at freetexttocad.com (the "Service").
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information You Provide
When you use FreeTextToCAD, you may provide:
- Text prompts: Descriptions of the 3D models you want to generate.
- Photos (Photo to 3D Print only): An image you choose on the Photo to 3D Print page.
Prompts are transmitted to the AI providers listed in section 3.1 to generate CAD code. We do not keep them in the generation request after the response is received. Those providers process prompts under their own terms. The text-to-CAD generator does not accept images at all.
1.2 Photos on Photo to 3D Print
The Photo to 3D Print tool converts your image to a 3D model entirely inside your browser. By default your photo is never uploaded: it is read into memory, turned into a mesh on your own device, and discarded when you close or reload the page.
That page also has an optional checkbox, "Share this photo to help improve FreeTextToCAD", which is switched off unless you turn it on. If you turn it on and then download an STL, we receive and store:
- A reduced-size copy of the image (downscaled to at most 900 pixels on its longest side and saved as a JPEG — not your original file)
- The settings you chose (mode, size, thickness, threshold, detail, and so on)
- The resulting model's dimensions and triangle count, and any warnings we showed you
- The anonymous device ID described below, and the country your request came from
We use shared photos to understand which kinds of images produce good or bad models and to improve the conversion and the CAD generation behind it, which may include using them to train, tune or evaluate our systems (see section 2). Shared photos are not published or sold, and we do not attempt to identify anyone in them.
Please do not share photos of identifiable faces, other people, documents, or anything private or confidential. The tool works best on high-contrast images, logos, and simple shapes, and those are what we most want to learn from. You are responsible for having the right to share any image you upload.
Shared photos are retained while we are still using them to improve the tool. You can ask us to delete photos associated with your device at any time by getting in touch through our contact page — include the approximate date you used the tool so we can find them. Leaving the checkbox off means there is nothing to delete.
1.3 Anonymous Quality Telemetry
To measure model quality (which build engine was used, and whether a model rendered) and to learn what kinds of prompts work well, we log one row per completed prompt session to our own server. Each row contains:
- The text of your prompt
- The internal restatement of your prompt that we send to the model, and the CAD script we generated and ran from it, so we can tell whether a part came out the shape you asked for
- Rendered images of the generated model and the sequence of script attempts we ran, used to diagnose why a part came out wrong
- Which build engine you used (Forge or Swift), and whether a model successfully rendered
- The outcome (accepted via export / abandoned / failed)
- How many revisions you ran
- Whether we warned that a finished model may not match your request, and whether you retried after that warning
- The export format if you exported (STL or OBJ)
- A random UUID stored in your browser (the same one used to enforce rate limits)
- Coarse traffic source for that visit (referring site hostname, optional UTM tags, and the first page you landed on) so we can tell search vs chat apps vs direct visits apart
These rows do not contain your IP address (only the country and city Cloudflare stamps on the request), and we do not use cookies for tracking, do not fingerprint your browser, and do not collect any account data (because there are no accounts). Your IP is used briefly for the rate-limit counter described in section 1.5, which stores no prompt or model data. These rows never contain your photos; images are covered separately in section 1.2 and are only stored if you opt in there. The UUID rotates if you clear browser storage. We use this data for the purposes in section 2 — chiefly to improve the tool and the AI systems behind it. It is not sold.
CAD Studio. The manual modeller at /cad-studio has no prompt to log, so it records one row per visit describing how the tool was used: how long the page was open, whether the CAD kernel finished loading and how long it took, counts of sketches, features, extrudes, cuts, rebuilds and STL exports, any error messages the tool showed you, and a timestamped list of the buttons and tools you used in order (for example “sketch opened → rectangle tool → extrude → OK”) together with the kinds of features left in the document when you left. If you type into the in-studio AI box, the first 160 characters of that request are kept, exactly as generator prompts are. It also stores the same anonymous device UUID, coarse country/city and traffic source as above. It does not record your geometry, dimensions, sketch coordinates, or the models you build — only which actions were taken and in what order. A row is written even if you open the page and do nothing, because knowing that is the point of the measurement.
1.4 Page visits
Completing a model is not the same as opening a page. To tell those apart — and to see which tools people actually visit — we record one row per page view in the same first-party database as the quality log (Cloudflare D1, on our account). The browser sends a small beacon to our own/api/pv endpoint, not to a third-party analytics service. Any advertising partner we work with would collect its own data separately, as described in section 3.2.
Each row includes:
- The page path (for example /photo-to-print), not the full query string
- The page title
- The referring site, and any UTM tags on that URL
- The same anonymous device UUID described above
- A session id that starts fresh after 30 minutes of no activity
- Coarse country, region, and city from Cloudflare — not your IP address
- A coarse browser family parsed from the user-agent
- Viewport width and height
- How long the page stayed open, if the browser had a chance to tell us, and whether you interacted or stayed at least 15 seconds
We also mark rows that look like known crawlers or automated clients so we can leave them out of any traffic figure we report. Those rows are kept, not deleted, so we can audit the filter. This data is used to understand which tools get used (including pages people open and leave), to report traffic volume to advertising partners, and, if we run ads, to help tailor the ads shown on this site. It is not sold and not used to identify you.
If your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal, we do not send the beacon.
1.5 Rate Limiting Data
We store temporary counters in a Cloudflare D1 database on our account so the free AI quota can be shared fairly. Tied to your browser's device ID: how many models you have generated today, the timestamps of the AI calls within your current model, and the time your next model becomes available. Tied to your IP address: a count of models generated today, used only to stop one network from exhausting the daily allowance. All of these expire automatically within 24 hours, hold no information about what you asked for, and are not associated with your identity.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use collected information to:
- Operate and improve the FreeTextToCAD service
- Develop the product, which may include using prompts, generated scripts, renders, outcomes and opted-in photos to train, tune and evaluate the AI models and generation systems behind FreeTextToCAD
- Enforce fair-use rate limits to prevent abuse
- Analyze usage patterns to improve the tool
- Support advertising that keeps the Service free, which may include reporting traffic to advertising partners and helping tailor the ads shown on this site
- Detect and prevent fraud or abuse
- Comply with legal obligations
We do not sell your data, and we do not use it to identify you. Where we say "may", it means the use is permitted under this policy; it does not mean it is happening at any given moment.
3. Third-Party Services
3.1 AI providers
Your text prompts are sent to one or more of these services to generate CAD code:
- Google Gemini API
- Cloudflare Workers AI
- OpenRouter (including Google Gemma models)
Each provider's privacy policy applies to the prompts they receive. We do not sell your prompts. We recommend reviewing their policies if you want the details.
3.2 Advertising
FreeTextToCAD may show advertising, including through third-party networks such as Google AdSense, to help keep the Service free. Advertising partners may use cookies and similar technologies to serve and measure ads, including ads based on your visits to this and other sites, under their own privacy policies. You can opt out of personalised ads at Google's Ad Settings and through your browser settings. We may also use the first-party data described in section 1 to report traffic to advertising partners and to help tailor the ads shown here. The page-visit log in section 1.4 is collected by us, not by an ad network.
3.3 Cloudflare
Our site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages and uses Cloudflare Workers for API proxying. Cloudflare may process your IP address and request data as part of its content delivery and security services.
4. Cookies and browser storage
We use browser storage for:
- Device id: A random UUID in localStorage, used for rate limits and the logs above.
- Session id: A short-lived id in sessionStorage for the page-visit log, reset after 30 minutes idle.
We do not set third-party analytics cookies. Advertising partners, where we work with them, may set their own cookies as described in section 3.2; your browser settings and the opt-outs linked there control those. Clearing site data in your browser rotates the ids above. Some features (rate limits, the quality log) need the device id to work as described.
5. Data Retention
- Generated models: Never stored. They are built in your browser and only exist in the file you download.
- Quality telemetry (including prompt text): Retained while we are using it for the purposes in section 2, as described in section 1.3.
- Page visits: Retained while we are using them to understand traffic, as described in section 1.4.
- Shared photos: Only if you opted in, and retained as described in section 1.2. Deleted on request.
- Rate-limit counters: Expire automatically within 24 hours.
- Server logs: Up to 30 days, for security and debugging.
6. Children's Privacy
FreeTextToCAD is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, please contact us immediately.
